History
For more than 25 years, BenefitWorks has been serving clients throughout the mid-Atlantic region, specializing in investment advising and qualified plan recordkeeping for companies and organizations as well as financial and retirement planning for individuals.
As a Lebanon, PA Registered Investment Advisor, We’re proud of our local roots and long history of service to the Lebanon community.
Brooks Trefsgar grew up in Lebanon. A graduate of The Hill School and Lebanon Valley College, he put his B.S. degree in economics and business to work in 1971 by entering the life insurance business, where he specialized in the advanced markets of business and estate planning.
In April 1984, Brooks and Robert Heerdt saw an opportunity to venture into the qualified plan recordkeeping and investment advisory business. Insurance companies were not interested in handling small plans, and there were no other recordkeepers in the Lebanon area.
Committed to offering their clients total objectivity, Brooks and Bob built their investment advisory business – Trefsgar & Co, Inc. – on a fee basis rather than one that relies on commissions.
In July 2007, the company changed its name to BenefitWorks, and, in April 2009, Brooks’ son, BT Trefsgar, joined the company as a Lebanon, PA Registered Investment Advisor. When Bob retired in 2014, his interest in the company was transferred to Brooks and BT, and BT assumed a leadership role as BenefitWorks’ Vice President of Investments.
