Brooks Trefsgar
President
Brooks Trefsgar grew up in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
He is a graduate of The Hill School and Lebanon Valley College and holds a B.S. degree in economics and business.
Brooks entered the life insurance business in 1971 with Mutual of New York and specializes in the advanced markets of business and estate planning.
In 1984, Brooks and Robert Heerdt saw an opportunity to venture into the qualified plan recordkeeping and investment advisory business. Insurance companies were not interested in handling small plans, and there were no other recordkeepers in the Lebanon area.
Because Brooks and Bob were committed to serving their clients with complete objectivity, they built their investment business – Trefsgar & Co, Inc. – on a fee-based business model rather than one that relies on commissions. In July 2007, that company became BenefitWorks, Inc.
Long active in the Lebanon community, Brooks served as president of the Lebanon Life Underwriters Association for many years as well as president of the Visiting Nurses Association. In addition, he was president of the VNA Foundation during its infancy and served on the board of directors of the Good Samaritan Hospital.
The fight against blindness is of paramount importance to Brooks. For 26 years, he organized and served as chair of the World Blindness Outreach, Inc. annual golf outing, helping to raise more than $1M to fund medical mission trips to developing nations. Brooks has participated in multiple missions to the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Ecuador.
Brooks and his wife, Amy, a Lebanon native, have four children, six grandchildren, three dogs and a cat. They are active members at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Lebanon and greatly enjoy contemporary Christian music. As a couple, they enjoy golf, skiing, biking and travel. Both are animal lovers and encourage others to provide forever homes to rescues.
